New Delhi: Five other sites are expected to be officially declared a tiger reserve (TR) at the end of this year, taking the number of TRS to 56, because the center has given approval to provide a tiger reserve status to three new sites and agree to the principle to provide a nod to two again.
Three sites that received their approval were MM Hills in Karnataka, Ghasidas Teacher National Park in Chhattisgarh and Ramgarh Vishdhari in Rajasthan while the two who received a nodding principle were Wildlife Reserve in Arunachal Pradesh and Kaiur Wildlife Sanctuary in Bihar.
“Because three sites have received central approval, the countries concerned will now have to formally to notify these fields as TRS.
On the other hand, the National Tiger Conservation Authority has communicated in-principle approval for two locations, requesting a detailed proposal from Countries under the Law of Wildlife (Protection), 1972, “said an official.
NTCA recommends a proposal to the state after a thorough test.
All 51 TRS together covers an area of 73,765 square kilometers.
“The five new sites are expected to be informed formally before the global tiger summit will be held at Vladivostok, Russia later this year,” the official said.
Overcoming the 4th Asian Minister’s Conference on Tiger Conservation, Minister of Environment Bhupender Yadav on Friday underlined the Indian success story in doubling the tiger population in 2018 itself, four years before the year targeted in 2022.
