Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has stated November 5 as a local holiday for schools, colleges and government offices after demand from the teacher associations and government employee associations.
The association has demanded local holidays on November 5 to allow them to travel to their natives to celebrate Diwali with their families.
Diwali on November 4 “To compensate for local holidays, government offices, schools and colleges will function on November 20,” said Public Secretary D Jagannathan in a command issued on October 30.
