Khunti: Five family members were killed in a lightning attack in the Khunti Jharkhand district on Saturday night, officials said.
The incident occurred in Dahutoli Village in the Larta area in the district of Karra District, they said.
Family members are working on the field when the rain starts and they take refuge under the nearest tree, surprised by lightning, said Deputy Commissioner Khunti Shashi Ranjan.
The deceased was identified as Manga Munda (55), his wife Jivanti (45), their son Puna (32) and his wife Jayma (30).
Puna and Jayma’s son who was five years old Ayush also died, while their two-year-old son, Arpan received a severe burning injury, the official said.
The incident triggered tensions in the area with a large number of people gathered in place.
The police then took the body to the hospital for Post Mortem.
Princess Manga, the only family member who survived, was given Rs 10,000 as a help immediately, the official said.
According to the rules, a number of RS 4 Lakh will be given to him for each family member who was killed in a lightning strike, he said.
