Trichy: In two separate incidents, five fishermen from Keechankuppam in Nagapattinam District were attacked, allegedly by a group of fishermen from Sri Lanka, in the middle of the sea and also robbed the mesh battery, catch and their ship.
Four of them suffered sustained injuries and were treated at a government hospital in Nagapattinam, Marine police said.
In the first incident, four fishermen have traveled into the sea on a fiber (Ind TN 06 MO 6519) owned by S Selvakumar on Saturday morning.
The fishermen told the police that around 4pm when they lured around 12 miles southeast of Kodiakai, nine fishermen from Sri Lanka arrived on the mechanical ship and dealing with them.
They entered the Tamil Nadu fishing boat and took their catch, 500 kg of nets worth Lakh Rupees, a 12 volt battery and echo sounder.
The four sustainable minor injuries during the incident.
The fishermen arrived on land and filed complaints to the sea police in Nagapattinam.
The police identified four as C Raveendran, 28, S Krishnaraj, 55, C Velmurugan, 35, and R Selvam.
In another incident in the same place an hour later, 450 kg of fish nets and catches were taken away by the same Sri Lankan fishermen group from fiber boat (Ind TN 06 MO 1753) owned by V Thakshinamoorty from Keechankupam when he was fishing along with three other.
No one was injured during the incident, the police said based on complaints submitted by fishermen.
