Chennai: Madras High Court has made it mandatory for all vehicles sold after September 1 has a bumper to the bumper insurance cover for five years.
Justice S Vaidyanathan passes order in an effort to ensure that everyone traveling by vehicle, including the driver, is borne in insurance.
The court passed the order when setting aside awards passed by the motorbike court which directed the insurance company to pay Rs 14.65 lakh as compensation to the family of people who died even though the vehicles involved in the accident were covered with only ‘third parties’.
Insurance (includes injury / damage caused by third parties and not vehicle residents or damage caused by vehicles).
The court made insurance companies responsible for failing to produce all policy conditions.
“It is very sad to show that when the vehicle is sold, the buyer is not clearly to clear about the provisions of policy and its importance.
Similarly, when buying a vehicle, buyers are also not interested in fully understanding policy terms and conditions.
They care more about vehicle performance and not about policy, “said the court.
When buyers are ready to pay a large amount of vehicle purchases, it is truly surprising why buyers are not interested in spending the trivial amount to take policies to keep themselves and others wonder.
After five years early, the court said that vehicle owners must be careful in maintaining the interests of the driver, passengers, third parties and themselves, so as to avoid the obligations that do not need to be desirable to vehicle owners.
