The number of cases delayed at Karnataka Information Commission (KIC) has violated the 30,000 mark, the highest since the commission was founded about fifteen years ago.
There is a 50% decrease in the number of hearings and cases discarded.
Some information activists of information rights (RTI) have even stopped appealing.
They said they lost hope to get the initial help from the commission.

Consisting 11 benches included from the President Commissioner, KIC is known to hear around 50 cases a day per bench for more than a decade.
It has dropped to around 20 to 30 cases now.
The document shows the main commissioner itself throws only 400 strange cases a month.
The remaining benches, which are three empty, obviously only 100 to 200 cases a month.
This has produced a massive backlog, disappointing thousands of RTI applicants.
Analysis with the Right to the Center for Information Studies, a group based in Bengaluru, about the functioning of the KIC in connection with the hearing and disposal of cases for September 2021, showing the Commission only has a total of 3,968 cases in 30 days.
From this, KIC removes 1,409 cases and 2,559 cases remaining is the assessment or consideration command provided.
Analysis reveals delays in hearing and disposal cases come at real costs.
The average expenditure of the commission to hear one case has reached Rs 1,209.
The cost of throwing cases is Rs 3,406.
The cost arrived after calculating the salary and other benefits of the commissioner and support staff.
BH Veeresh, the central trustee, said the commission has become useless.
“What’s the point of getting information after a two-year delay? The Commission does not provide orders in a simple case where the applicant is only looking for work orders issued for certain projects.
Ideally, this information should be on the website,” he said.
Delays, he said, protect corrupt officials.
RTI Amaresh activists have stopped appealing.
“The Commission has chosen the case he wants; do not go with an appeal seniority.
It takes 6-8 months only to issue a notification of the show to the relevant officers.
Nexus who is not holy from the commission and corrupt officials is quite clear,” he said.

According to Amaresh, hearing and wasting RTI’s appeal was not as complicated with a civilian trial in the regular court.
“In a matter of three hours, each bench can hear more than 50 cases without problems.
The Commission can actually punish officers to deny information.
It has the power to punish up to RS 25,000.
KIC does not serve its purpose,” Amaresh said.
However, the President Commissioner NC Srinivasa blamed the ‘poor quality’ staff and lack of labor for the delay in competition.
“It’s insufficient that the commission has a good building and quite a bench.
We don’t have a good typist and stenograph because of all of them outsourcing.
The power of staff sanctions from 141, more than 30 posts are empty,” he explained.
“We have prepared a Draft cadre and recruitment (C & R) rules for KIC.
After the government agreed, we will hire professionals and throw 30,000-strange delayed cases, “he said.
