While 5,981 health care professionals signed up for doctoral studies in 2016-17, the appropriate number was 1.5 times at 9,330 in 2019-20.
In 2017-18 and 2018-19, registration for PhDs in health sciences was 7,086 and 7,473, said the All India survey of higher education (Aishe) was released by the Ministry of HRD recently.
For 2019-20, 9,330 medical postgraduate is registered in 48 sub-streams, with the highest number registered on the pharmacy at 3,536.
Ayurveda has 361 and dentistry, 507.
At the PhD level, only 153 students from the flow of general drugs while 665 comes from breastfeeding.
