Nagpur: excess speed, dangerous driving, the wrong side, without a helmet and under the influence of alcohol is the five biggest causes of road accidents in the city.
According to the accident analysis on the road in the first six months of the calendar year, conducted by the Nagpur City Traffic Police, 221 of 424 road accidents occurred for the reasons mentioned above.
56 people were killed and more than 224 were injured in this accident.
However, this study placed a dangerous driving as the main reason for the accident on the road as proven in 96 cases where 31 people were killed, 54 injured perfected and 46 sustainable minor injuries.
Similarly, overspeeding is the main cause of other road accidents.
Exceeding the speed limit was found responsible for 56 accidents killing 31 people and injuring 54 others.
Other reasons such as overtaking, human errors etc.
also contributed to 198 road accidents.
Analysis reveals that these factors have claimed 57 lives and injured 202.
This analysis also revealed that in 2020 calendar years, city streets witnessed the maximum accident because it exceeds the speed of the vehicle.
Overspeeding contributed to 194 accidents, while driving under the influence of liquor was the reason for 23 accidents.
According to a road accident analysis in the last 18 months (from 1 January 2020 to 30 June 2021), this accident killed 346 people and injured more than 1,185.
The number of highest road accident victims is pedestrian – 77.
Likewise, 22 car drivers, 21 cyclists and 199 other (most two-wheeled riders) were killed in accidents in the last 18 months, disclosing data.
Traffic police, however, claimed that they had intensified their encouragement to flouling speed norms.
In the first six months, the police had sentenced 8,778 people for the same reason.
Similar actions were also initiated against other major offenders including driving the wrong side, driving without licenses etc., the police added.
“Driving against traffic regulatory violators has also been intensified by 4,42,516 riders issued by Challan and RS7.35 Crore recovering from them,” police said.
