50 students to register at Madurai AIIM this year

MADURAI: Preliminary work at AIIMS facilities for Madurai will begin this year and 50 students will be registered from this academic year.
However, construction work on the project will only begin in 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2026, MP Virudhunagar Manickam Tagore has said.
MP, who attended the first meeting of Madurai AIIMS, which was held on Friday through a virtual session led by Jipmer President Dr.
VM Katoch and the President of the AIIMS Institute Committee, said that one of the takeaways of the meeting was the surrender of 220 hectares of land for the trade union government.
Tagore said that when registration will begin this year, a medical college with lab facilities will be chosen for the purpose and Government of Tamil Nadu will soon make a decision for this effect.
The loan agreement for this project was signed by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on March 26, 2021.
JICA will provide 82% while 18% will be borne by the Government Government.
Estimated Previous Rs 1,678 Crore has increased to Rs 1,978 and the Government Government will now bear the additional Rs 300 Crore, he said.
The agreement will be signed with JICA for the appointment of the project management consultant.
This center has enabled the appointment of 180 faculty members and 120 non-faculty staff for AIIMS facilities, he said.
Others who participated in the meeting included Dr.
Hanumatha Rao, Executive Director, Madurai AIIMS and Head of Secretary of Tamil Nadu V IRAI ANBU.
