MySuru: In a study conducted among the beneficiaries of the government scheme for senior citizens, 54% said they were happy or very happy with their lives.
Asked to rank their happiness on a scale of 5, the average score turned out to be 3.6.
The results of the survey were released by the Authority of the Evaluation of Karnataka (Kea) earlier this year and uploaded on his website recently.
It includes 6,087 beneficiaries in all – 2,994 Indira Gandhi’s national old age pension scheme (Ignoaps), and 3,093 Sandhya Surakha Yojane (SSY).
Among the recipients of rewards, 57.2% of themselves they are happy or very happy, while among the SSY beneficiaries, that number is 50.4%.
The other 40% said they were “OK” while 6.4% said they were “unhappy” or “at all unhappy”.
This study was conducted by the research and advocacy movement of MySuru (GRAAM) grassroots for Kea.
Studies, utilizing primary and secondary data, are intended to analyze the function of the scheme and identify their contribution to the welfare of the poor, in addition to teaching awareness about retirement schemes and not beneficiaries.
It also sees factors that affect the coverage of DBT associated with Aadhaar for retirement schemes.
This report refers to several gaps in the implementation of the scheme and makes some suggestions for implementing it more effectively.
About 4.6% of SSY and 11.6% of the recipients of the yield continued to work despite receiving retirement.
About 30% of beneficiaries say they share pensions with their families.
About a quarter of retirement to spending food while 17% of others pay drugs.
Chaya K Degaonkar, Head of Additional Evaluation of Kea, said that since those surveyed came from very poor families, retirement schemes walked far in improving their lives.
“This might be the reason for their response.
In this study, we found several gaps in the implementation of the scheme to be overcome,” he said.
“Niti Aayog has suggested conducting an evaluation study of all schemes.
The state budget also proposed an evaluation study from all projects that crossed Rs 100 Crore,” he explained.
Basavaraju R Shreshta, Executive Director of Gramam said the social support system was provided for senior citizens, including family care and support, must affect responses.
Gopinath R, founder of Sparsha Trust in Bengaluru, said the 50% happiness score was consistent in similar studies conducted among senior citizens in villages and the community.
“10-15% said they were disappointed or had a challenge.
The rest live on average life.
It looks common in all communities and the environment,” he said.
