Chennai: At least 54 people including doctors, nurses and medical students who were tested positive for Covid-19 at the Hospital in Chennai on Saturday.
The source of infection, according to the doctor, is one of their patients, diabetics, who were hospitalized for graft skin procedures on December 17.
While there are no history of travel reported in any patient, at least 39 of them have a s-gen-gene drop – the indicator they can carry the Omicron variant.
All patients have a mild and stable form of infection, the hospital said.
On Saturday, Minister of Health MA Subramanian said the state had tested 3,038 close contact patients including hospital staff, students and family members between 18 and December 24.
So far, 54 contacts have tested reporters.
Those infected include 18 health care providers – seven undergraduate medical residents (CRRI), seven breastfeeding students, two nursing staff, a PG student, and workers outsourcing.
At least 21 other contacts, including family, have also been tested positively.
“We continue to track and test contacts.
Samples from all patients have been sent to sequencing all genomes,” said Minister of Health.
The health condition of all patients is stable, according to Dean Hospital Dr.
E Theranirajan.
“Our team tracks and tests all health care workers including Hostels and classmates, contacts that sit with them for lunch or tea.
Nearly tested negatives have also been told to report if they experience cold symptoms, sore throats.
