54 years after the first sanctuary, Goa still has no management plan

Keri: Goa’s First Wildlife Reserve, Sanctuary Bhagwan Mahaveer in Mollem in Dharbandora was told in 1967.
Since then, the state has increased the number of wildlife asylum to six and even gets one national park.
However, more than fifty years after the first protected area was informed, Goa did not have a wildlife management plan for one of the holy places.
At present, the Goa government has assigned the task of formulating wildlife management plans for all seven protected areas in the state and officials say that this is in the final stage they are approved.
In the absence of a management plan, such as existing for refuge places throughout the country, the protected cave area remains open to exploitation.
Recently, the transfer of protected forests in Mollem for three linear projects had been burned from residents throughout Goa.
“Our head office has received wildlife management plans for Bondla and Cotigao Succuaries.
Work on plans for remaining holy places and national parks are in the final process.
This will be implemented after government approval,” said the Project of the Forest Santosh Kumar to Ti .
The management plan provides direction for biodiversity conservation and natural resources in the sanctuary reserve.
They set management goals for specific protected areas over a certain period of time and provide strategies for species, anti-hunting, patrol management, limiting illegal trade in wild animals and plant species.
“I was involved in making a wildlife management plan for Sanctuary Mhadei.
After consulting with various stakeholders, the purpose of development that can be agreed upon by all that is in the process of finalization.
I will send the earliest plan to the Ministry of Forestry,” Zoological Professor at the University of Goa , said Nitin Sawant.
After Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary with a 133 km square area was told, the protected area in Cotigao in Canacona was told in 1968 with an area of 85.6 square kilometers.
This was followed by Sanctuary in Bondla in Ponda with an area of 7.9 square kilometers in 1969.
While Goa gets a national park alone in Mollem with 107 square kilometers in 1978, the bird sanctuary is the only country of The Dr.
Salim Ali Sanctuary in Chorao was told at Chorao 1988 with an area of 1.7sq km.
Mhadei wildlife asylum in 1999 with an area of 208.5 Km Square and Netrevali Wildlife Sanctuary in 1999 in Sanguem with an area of 211 square kilometers is another protected area in the state.
Nearly 80% of cave forests spread in hilly fields and soil conservation and humidity and the increase in tree cover is the first objective set for the state forest department after liberation.
However, mining activities, agricultural expansion and horticulture and various developmental activities have led to the degradation of state forest cover.
