Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister Veena George said that even though Kerala had recorded a half-a-lakh case in one day, there was no appropriate increase in hospital admission.
Of the 2,85,365 active cases only 3.8% of people are recognized in hospitals or other treatment centers.
Where those who underwent hospital treatment, only 0.7% needed a bed of oxygen and 0.4% of patients in the ICU.
Therefore it does not need to panic over exponential increase in the number of cases, he said.
Of the total 3,107 ICU beds in the state, 1,328 were occupied by Covid and non-Covid cases, which amounted to only 42.7%.
Among this covid patient is 385 and 57% of the blank ICU bed now.
The state has a total of 2,293 ventilators which are only 14% occupied by covid and non-covid patients, George added.
The minister said that people aged between 20 and 30 years were mostly influenced during the third wave.
In addition, more health workers are also infected and this is a matter of concern.
On Tuesday, 506 health workers were tested positively.
In the wake up more infected health workers, the State Health Department has decided to appoint 4,971 people while in various hospitals, first and second-line care centers.
People who have worked in the Covid Brigade will previously be given a preference during this appointment, the Minister of Health said.
The department has also decided to establish a Covid control room in all government medical college hospitals to coordinate Covid cases in each.
The minister said only Category C patients would be treated at medical colleges and no hospitals would refer patients in the category A and B to medical colleges.
