Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Police and Police Dakshina Kannada have taken additional steps to prevent unnecessary vehicle movements in the district, during weekend hours of night starting on Saturday.
City police have established 36 checkpost in the city of police commissioner of jurisdiction, for strict implementation of weekend hours.
Meanwhile, Police Dakshina Kannada founded 22 checkpost, including nine at the Kerala-Karnataka border in this district, to limit the movement of people and vehicles.
A limited number of personal buses and KSRTC plyed on Saturday.
Restrictions on stores that sell milk, fruits, vegetables, meat, and food ingredients, other business companies remain closed.
Kukke Subrahmanya, Dharmasthala and other major temples in the district, limit the entry of worshipers during weekend hours.
Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala suspended online order for Sevas, based on the direction of the state government, universities, most of the government offices and private companies remained closed.
Most of the busy roads in the city of Mangaluru wear a quiet look.
The police team led by DCP (law and order) Hariram Shankar checks the vehicle in various places in the city.
The police issued a warning to commuting in private vehicles, for failing to wear a mask.
The police also directed the bus conductor not to allow passengers to rise without wearing a mask.
Surveillance on the Kerala border, including Talapady, has been strengthened.
The district government has installed a tent with a CCTV camera, as part of its supervision in Talapady.
Only those who traveled due to emergencies, and travelers to the airport were allowed to enter Dakshina Kannada with the negative certificate of RT-PCR.
President of the Association of Bus Owner Dakshina Kannada Jayasheela Adyanthaya told TOI from 345 city buses, only 50 – 70 plyed on various routes in the city.
“We have taken it to government notice, about the problem of the bus owner faced because of the lock and weekend hours.
We have operated our bus after paying taxes and insurance first.
Weekend curfew reduces our daily collection of up to 50%,” he said.
An official of the KSRTC Division Mangaluru said only 50% of the bus was played on various routes in the district.
The division operated by the bus depends on passenger demand, said an official.
