Nicosia: The 6.6 magnitude earthquake hit the west coast of Cyprus early Tuesday, the US geologic survey said but there were no direct reports of victims or damage.
A strong and relatively superfine struck on 0107 GMT centered 48 kilometers (30 miles) west-northwest policy city on the Mediterranean island, said USGS.
The tremor was felt in Cyprus and around the region with reports from as far as Turkey, Israel and Lebanon, according to USGS.
But there is a possibility of low victims and damage from the earthquake, he said in the initial assessment.
The European-Mediterranean seismology center measures the tremor in the 6.5 magnitude at a depth of 51 km.
