HAVERI: Following a downward trend in Covid-19 cases in Haveri, the district administration has shut six Covid Care Centers (CCC) temporarily.
District administration had set up a total of 12 CCCs with 1,281 beds, but only 81 were occupied by Covid patients as of June 20.Currently, six CCCs are functioning in the district, but these have fewer patients.
The drop in bed occupancy comes as the state government has allowed home isolation for patients in urban areas with certain conditions.
Besides, there has been a drastic drop in the number of patients getting admitted to the centres.
According to sources, Devaraj Urs Bhavan, Kamala Nagar and SRK Layout CCCs in Ranebennur taluk, Kalkeri and Akkialur in Hanagal, Bada CCC in Shiggaon taluk have been shut temporarily in the district.
Sindhagi Shantaveereshwar Ayurved College, Basapur and Savanur CCC have single-digit cases — five, six and eight patients respectively.
Byadagi CCC has 12 patients, while Dudihalli CCC in Hirekerur has 28 and Hunasikatti CCC has 22 patients each.
District health officer Dr HS Raghavendraswamy said that during the first week of May and June, the Covid-19 situation had peaked in Haveri district the positivity rate was 25-30%.
On average 250 tested positive cases had been registered each day against 1500 RTPCR tests.
“Now the positivity rate has dipped drastically in entire the district.
It has come down to 2-3 %.
Right now, less than 50 cases are being reported.
Six CCCs do not have patients in the district as of now,” he added.
“We had set up a total of 12 CCCs to isolate asymptomatic patients and those with mild symptoms in different taluks.
However, all the beds at the CCCs were fully occupied during the pandemic as we had not allowed home isolation for rural patients as per the government order,” said deputy commissioner Sanjay Shettennavar.
Temporary measure: DC“We have not disrupted the functioning of CCCs.
We have just temporarily shut the CCCs due to the dip in patients in the district.
We will reopen them if cases increase,” said Sanjay Shettennavar, deputy commissioner of Haveri.
