Nagpur: The Mayor of Dayashankar Tiwari on Monday announced to start English high school in six assembly constituents from this academic session (2021-22).
“The constituency where six affiliated secondary schools with six states will begin to function include Rani Durgawati Primary School (North Nagpur), Babhulvan Marathi School (East), Swarigiya Baburaooji Bobde Marathi Primary School (South-West), Rambhau Mhalgi Nagar Marathi Elementary School (South Nagpur) and Swargiya Gopalrao Mothgare Hindi Hulu School (Central), “said Mayor.
“In the current session, only three classes – KG-1, KG-2 and Standards 1 – will be in English media and then one class will be added every year,” said Chairman of the Dive Dive Education Committee.
Like Marathi, Hindi and Urdu schools, NMC will provide free education in these schools in addition to providing textbooks, school uniforms, he said.
“NMC has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Grapha Foundation to run six English secondary schools from this academic session for 20 years,” said Education Officers NMC Preeti Mishrikotkar.
The Civic body will provide other basic facilities and spend RS2.66 Crore per year.
Each school will have the capacity to register 40 students and provide free education from KG-1 to STD X.
“If we get a good response, more parts will be added,” said Dive.
At present, NMC runs 101 elementary schools and 29 secondary schools.
Of these, only one school – Banatwala – is an English media.
The total strength of students in these schools is around 18,000 and 952 teaching staff.
Diving said NMC had approached the central government to start the English class affiliated with CBSE in eight schools.
The proposal has not been cleaned.
But we are positive to start the CBSE school from the next academic session (2022-23), he said.
The foundation will be charged around 30% for teacher salaries and employees, in the first year, 35% in seconds, 40% in the third year and 45% in the fourth year.
NMC administration will take care of the school building, basic facilities, electricity, water bills, construction of school buildings and maintenance, student uniforms, books, nutritious foods, safety and cleanliness expenditures.
All school and administrative management will be under NMC, while teaching staff will be provided by NGOs and all will get a salary according to the recommendation of the sixth payment commission, said Dive.
Meanwhile, the NMC has started counseling for students who come out of standard 10 and 12 for higher studies.
Civic’s body, which has been hanging out in academics, provides free services, said Mayor.
