After surging for six weeks, the Covid case fell slightly in Kerala on the week ending on Sunday.
A 2% decline still left the country with 1.37 lakh new cases for a week, accounting for 54% of all infections detected in India during the period.
Meanwhile, India on Monday reported below 25,000 new cases for the first time in more than five months.
There were 24,577 new cases on Monday, the lowest daily number recorded since March 13 (24,866), mainly due to a sharp decline in testing on independence day (Sunday).
Only 11.8 Lakh Covid tests were carried out on Sundays, down from more than 20 lakhs in most days of the week.
Last week (August 9-15), Maharashtra recorded less than 40,000 cases, the lowest weekly number in almost six months.
The last time Maharashtra had posted weekly cases below 40,000 was on February 15-21, when the count was 36,606.
The count last week was a 9% decline from the previous week’s number (43,134).
The weekly chart mostly remains a plateau in Karnataka (-5%) and TN (-2%), with the two countries recorded nearly 11,000 new cases.
HP continued to record a surge in case, posted a 31% increase over a week before.
The country recorded 2,256 cases compared to 1,726 in the previous week.
This is the third week in a row of increasing infections in the state of the Himalayas.
Meanwhile, several states and UTS where the amount of fresh infection remains quite low, records bursts in the case.
This includes Chandigarh, where weekly rises from 24 to 51, an increase of 113%.
Punjab saw a bursts of 35%, Gujarat 34%, 14% Puducherry and Dadra, Nagar Haveli Daman and DIU 50%.
