6-year-old male elephant saved from Pit Dies

Coimbatore: The six-year-old male elephant who was saved from a hole on the Central Police Force (CRPF) campus in KurudamTamanlayam near Thudiangur on Saturday died without responding to treatment near the village of Poochiyur in the days.
Two veterinarians tried to revive the elephant, who had fainted in the land of the Patta close to Forest Reserve on Monday morning.
Even though there were no external injuries, they said that the elephant fell ill because of dehydration.
T K ASHOK KUMAR, district forest officers, said the sample of vital organs and blood was collected from the elephant carcass and sent them to the laboratory in Chennai for testing.
“According to the autopsy report, the heart of the elephant is weak and the normal blood circulation is affected.
It is also completely dehydrated.
The exact cause of elephant death can only be known after we receive the test results.” Other forest officers said the front-line staff team was very close to monitor the elephant after being saved from the hole with Earthmover help.
Before releasing elephants to the forest, veterinarians have given glucose and other drugs in animals.
“However, it collapsed on the land of the Patta which was only 250 meters from various forests of Periyanenickenayam on Monday morning.
Animal officers tried to revive the animal, who died on Tuesday morning.
The carcass was buried on the day itself after postmortem,” he said.
