600 houses get ‘thank you’ notes for dividing waste

Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Sundays attach the “Thank you” sticker in front of more than 600 homes in an award for their steps to separate garbage before handing over garbage to sanitation workers.
On the first day of the drive, BMC attached stickers at 600 houses, 200 in each of the three zones, as part of the Citizen Connect initiative which was intended to encourage people to separate garbage in their homes.
The drive was carried out at Badagada Brit Colony, close to the police station under the Southeast Zone, Soubhagya Nagar Bank Colony under the southwest zone and at Gajapati Nagar at Ward No North Zone.
Three types of stickers have been developed by the local urban agency that distinguishes households based on separate waste to the vehicle collection of BMC waste.
Households that provide separate waste thank you with green stickers inserted in front of their house.
The Civic body attaches orange stickers in homes that provide mixed waste and ask residents to separate waste to the source.
Some families who throw garbage beyond interesting to deposit their waste in a separate way for sanitation workers in the morning.
BMC will put a red sticker outside their home, the official source said.
There are 23 micro compost centers (PKS) which cover around 36 BMC wards.
Wet waste collected from houses is used to make compost in these centers.
There are plans to increase their number to 41.
After this, all Civic’s body wards will be included in this initiative.
BMC has asked residents to separate dried and wet waste in their homes.
Wet waste is brought to the micro composting center and dry waste processed at the material recovery facility.
The city has 24 material recovery facilities, but only eight it works.
