Kanyakumari: Sixty-three Covid patients were transferred to other wards after the fire broke out in the main block of the Kankakumari Medical College Hospital on Wednesday night.
The fire considered at 19:50 PM was controlled in about 10 minutes with a fire tender placed in the hospital for oxygen plants.
Three more fire tenders from Nagercil and Colachel firefighting station were transferred to the hospital but the fire was controlled by the first tender and fire department at 7.59 at night.

District fire officer B Saravanababu told TII that the main block was land plus a four-story structure.
“The fire broke out in a room where waste items such as blank cardboard boxes, the damaged and other cots were stored in an inappropriate way and under unsafe conditions.
The cause of the fire was being investigated,” he said.
There were 150 patients in the Covid-19 ward and general ward.
Preliminary questions revealed that patients did not have difficulty breathing.
However, Covid-19 patients were transferred to other empty wards as precautions.
Police and fire and rescue service personnel are investigating the causes of flames.
The investigation was also being carried out by hospitals with staff members and other people present when the fire broke out.
