Madurai / Trichy: Although the number of new Covid-19 cases recorded in the state has floated between 23,400 and 24,000 in the last four days, the number of cases recorded in the ten southern district Tamil Nadu continued to rise.
On Monday, the southern region added 3,096 new cases, which were added to the day since June 7 last year.
Kanyakumari (831) recorded the highest number of cases on Monday.
In the central area, Trichy continued to report the most cases with 495.
Active cases in the district were at 3,307 as 308 patients recovered and one died on Monday.
The district has reported 453 new cases on Sundays.
Overall, this region reported 1,530 new cases with 8,987 active cases.
The number of active cases in the southernmost district rose to 4,004.
With 640 new cases Madurai follow Kanyakumari.
This was the highest number of cases added by Madurai in a day since June 1 last year, because the total number of cases recorded in the district until the date rose to 80,986 including 75,809 recovery, 3,982 active cases and two deaths that day took the victim of 1,195.
Madurai with 342 recovery on the day recorded the highest among the southern district.
The two deaths in the Madurai District include a 78-year-old man with a recurrent cerebrovascular accident tested positively on January 9, hospitalized on January 11 and died on Saturday.
The other was a 77-year-old man who was tested positively on January 11, hospitalized the following day and died on Sunday.
Theni (331), Tirunelveli (331), Virudhunagar (313), Tuticorin (229) and Tenkasi (202) are other districts in the southern region which add more than 100 cases on Monday.
Dindigul (52), Sivagagai (76) and Ramanathapuram (91) add less than 100 cases.
Although the number of recovery in the southern region rose to 1,314 the number of active cases also rose to 17,832 because new cases continued to exceed the amount of recovery.
The five deaths recorded in the area on Monday included two each in Madurai and Tuticorin and one in Ramanathapuram.
Everything has comorbidity.
After Trichy, Thanjavur reported most of the new cases (409) and were active (2,346).
District reported 132 recovery.
