65% of leopards in Maha are outside the wildlife park

Nagpur: Of the 1,690 leopards in Maharashtra, a population of 65% remained outside the holy place, national park, and tiger reserves.

The amount may be more because the area in Marathwada and Gadchiroli have not been counted.
“” The leopard is spread throughout the Maharashtra forest landscape and with a 65% population who lives outside the right fitting is the cause of concern.
There is competition in the right fitting.
Leopard becomes opportunistic, moving near the villages to find easy prey.
The deviant leopard increases from leopard and mortality conflicts in road murder and population fragmentation by linear infrastructure.
People have to live side by side with them, “said Limaye.
