Chennai: More than 650 electric vehicle charging stations (EV) are expected to appear in Tamil Nadu and national highways connecting Chennai with other cities such as Thiruvananthapuram, Nagpur and Bhubaneswar immediately.
Experts argue that the increasing visibility of filling infrastructure will increase EV sales in the state.
Tamil Nadu currently has 45,300 vehicles operated with the highest seventh battery in this country, according to data on the Department of Transportation.
Despite stable growth in EV sales, inadequate charging infrastructure still acts as a deterrent.
So far, not a single public charging station is regulated by using government funds under the adoption and manufacture of electric vehicles in India (FAME) in Tamil Nadu.
Only now the Ministry of Union Heavy Industries has oversee 651 charging stations for Tamil Nadu under the phase II of the scheme of fame.
Abhinav Saman, Program Association, Energy and Water Council, Environment and Water (CEE), a policy research institute, said that in this initial phase, private players may not see the opportunity to regulate filling infrastructure and it is a large sign that the government is willing to accept the process.
“After business viability increases, the EV charging network will develop organically.
But it is more difficult to answer if enough.
In a larger context, there may not be enough EVs to have a much denser charging network,” Soman said.
MANSOOR Ali Khan, Chennai-based EV maker said that government initiatives would definitely reduce the range of anxiety regarding EV, but would increase sales only when they produced a universal filling model, such as motorists could fill the fuel tank.
Diesel vehicles or conventional gasoline.
“At present, every manufacturer, whether Ola, Atherher or Bounce, has adopted a different technology and there is no clarity whether all EVs can be charged at the public filling station,” Khan added.
Another problem can be a charging time.
On average, it can take four to eight hours to fill full electric cars.
But the manufacturer is optimistic that with better battery technology and fast filling options, this can drop for up to 20 minutes in the coming months.
A senior official from the State Steering Committee for EV said that the driver used a public filling station to increase the battery against full charging.
Even with Infra Limited, people take a long distance trip using EV now.
But it requires additional planning, the official said.
