66% of rape victims in Goa last year were children underage: NCRB

Panaji: Data released by the National Crime Note Bureau (NCRB) for 2020 has revealed that more than 66% of rape victims in Goa are minors.
Data also revealed that every month last year, Goa recorded an average of five cases of rape.
Of the 60 rape cases registered in Goa last year, there were 61 victims, where 42 were minors.
The rate of rape in Goa stands with 7.8%, higher than the national average of 4.3%.
NCRB also said that there had been a 73% increase in various crimes in 2020.
Bureau said that there was an increase in the registration of cases under the Indian Criminal Code (IPC) in 2020 compared to 2018 and 2019.
According to NCRB, 38% of cases registered were at under the IPC, and 84% of violations have been admired.
On the good side, not one incident of acid attack or dowry death was reported in Goa in 2020.
However, 67 registered cases related to women’s attacks with the intention of being angry.
There was a 3.4% increase in cases related to attacks on women.
Likewise, there was an increase of 2.5% in cases of sexual harassment, and 0.4% in sexual harassment at work or office.
Bureau said that 398 cases of theft and 148 motorcycle theft cases were reported in 2020.
Also said that 174 cases have been registered under the NDPS law.
There was also an increase in murder cases in 2020.
NCRB said that 34 murder cases were reported in 2020, compared with 33 in 2019.
However, it has declined by 2020, NCRB said.
Only 45 cases were registered with 2020, down from 71 in 2019.
A total of 36 children were kidnapped in 2020.
Along with the decline in crime against children (125 cases), there was also a decrease in crime against senior citizens.
Bureau said that down from 40 cases registered with crime against seniors in 2019, 2020 only saw 31.
