The BBMP tree expert committee has maintained 12 trees at the location.
Initially, BBMP had identified only 38 trees to be cut down.
A calm and recent announcement cut down 67 trees have surprised residents and lovers of local surroundings who have struggled to protect thinning green plants quickly in the city.
In order, the tree officer has directed the Central Project of the BBMP Division, which is building a flyover, to plant 10 healthy puppies as a substitute for each tree cut down.
The Civic Body plans to translate 17 trees at the location of St John’s Medical College and Hospital, Bengaluru.
Some trees that will be translated are:
Mahogany, Hoppe, Maddale, Tabebuia Rosea and Honge.
What is noticed is that the tree – which is not located on the construction site – marked because of logging when the authorities say that the branches of the tree will fall to the flyover.
The majority of these trees are 5 to 6 meters and at least 30 years.
Some species include: rain trees, mahogany, spetodia, athi, tabebuia rosea, gulmohar and tecoma etc.
Nithin Seshadri, a local resident, was surprised to learn that BBMP planned to cut 67 trees.
“We estimate that the project will affect around 15-20 trees in places where the sloping under planned.
Founding of sixty-seven trees is not needed.
These trees are not located in the middle.
BBMP must defend it by cutting branches branch, “he said.
He also said the group of locals had asked BBMP to inspect together to assess the loss of the tree.
“Joint inspections have never happened.
We even wrote to BBMP who opposed the ax of large trees.
When the project itself was behind the schedule, the BBMP should not be in a hurry to cut trees,” said Seshadri.
The DT Devare environment says BBMP public notification has never been in the public or advertised in the main publication.
“The BBMP must return the whole process of finding public opinion.
They can’t just continue and cut up a lot of these trees,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bbmp senior officials said that they only received one response to public notifications issued in September last year.
“Official memorandum has been published on our website.
Citizens can still share their comments and objections in the next ten days,” Govindaraj, the Deputy Forest Conservator at BBMP said.
