Nagpur: This is the coldest December 21 in Nagpur in the past 20 years, disclosing data from the Department of Meteorology.
On Tuesday, the city recorded a minimum temperature of the lowest this year at 7.6 degrees Celsius, making it the second coldest city in Vidarbha.
At 7.4 degrees Celsius, Gadchiroli is the coldest in the region.
The data provided by regional meteorological center officials (RMC), Nagpur, shows that in the last 20 years, the lowest minimum temperature in Nagpur for December 21 has recorded this season.
Before this, the lowest was in 2010, when the minimum mercury rate at the same date was 8.1 degrees Celsius.
The day before, Nagpur was the coldest in conditions that recorded a minimum temperature of 7.8 degrees Celsius.
In accordance with the official, this December temperature is very low due to the north wind.
“The level of mercury in North India is quite low and at this time the wind comes from the north.
The change in wind direction is expected immediately, when the flow will be south east.
We expect a temperature increase at that time,” they said.
The temperature is predicted to rise post December 23.
According to the Bulletin of the Indian Meteorology Department (IMD), cold wave conditions may occur in remote parts of Vidarbha in the next two days.
On Tuesday, RMC had issued a cold wave warning for Nagpur.
“Such a warning is issued when the temperature rises below 10 degrees Celsius and the departure of normal temperatures is 4.5 degrees Celsius or more,” the official added.
The minimum nagpur temperature on Tuesday is almost 5 degrees lower than usual.
Most of the districts in Vidarbha witness a minimum temperature below 10 degrees Celsius, besides Akola and Buldhana, each of which records 11 and 11.2 degrees Celsius.
Officials have advised residents to ensure several layers of clothing and minimize travel to prevent cold wind exposure.
