Kolkata: When the rain began to recede in Uttarakhand on Wednesday, tourists sighed relief looking forward to a faster road recovery.
The state government estimates that almost 70 people from Bengal are trapped there.
Surajit Chatterjee, a resident of Ramrajajala, was trapped in the Bageswar area on Monday.
On Wednesday, they tried to move from the area, but was stuck because of landslides.
“The rain has stopped and the surface of the water on the Sarayu River has begun to recede.
We are a group of eight trekkers who plan to go to Avoid Glacier.
We are stuck here after reaching Bageswar,” he said.
At least four more families from the motorbike are stranded in Uttarakhand.
Twelve members four families headed to Badrinath during pujas.
Debanjan Pathak family member, Debashis Das and Sukhendu Das was trapped in Joshimath.
Their family members on Wednesday said they could not get accommodation in any hotel and spend a day on the bus.
A group of 14 members from Amta was trapped in Kathgodam.
“We relate to family members.
CM Mamata Banerjee has taken the initiative to regulate their safe return,” said Minister of Tourism Indranil Sen.
The source of the tourism department said they had received information about 70 people stranded in various locations in Uttarakhand.
“We have asked them to stay in their place right now.
We will begin to save them as soon as the situation becomes rather normal,” said an official of the State Tourism Department.
Team five members from Bagnan are now in Pithoragarh and there is no communication that can be made with them since Tuesday.
The team from Bagnan went to nainital during pues.
They can contact family members on Tuesday afternoon before their cellphone becomes an investment.
Helpline for tourists, the country has started a credit-free helpline number – 1070 – to help tourists stranded in Uttarkhand from Bengal.
Helpline will operate 24×7 to help their tourists and relatives.
The tourists have been asked to live where they are placed and the country plans to save them so weather conditions improve.
