70 years old Mangeshkar Tug Association in Heartstrings Assam

Guwahati: The Association of seven decades of Lata Mangeshkar with Assam, which began in 1956 through legendary musician Bhupen Hazarika was not only a connection that connects Lata and Assam but also introduced it to Bengali listeners in the northeast a year.
Lata lent his voice in two songs in the film Assamese debut Secutorial Hazarika, Era Batar Sur in 1956, and in 1957, he sang in Bengali under the direction of Hazarika’s music.
Until then, Lata had lent her voice in just a few Bengali songs.

The Assamese version of both songs – “Porohi Puwate Tulunga Nawote” and “O Abhimani Bandhu” remain in the list of Evergreen Hazarika songs.
“In 1956, Bhupen Da went to Bombay to record Lata Ji for his first assamedies.
He sang two songs in the era of Batar Sur ‘-‘ Jonakore Raati Asomire Maati and ‘Rod Puwabor Karone’.
The second is a choir with Hemanta Mukherjee And Bhupen da.
It was the beginning of the contribution of Lata Ji for the Assamese film industry through Bhupen Da, “Kataki said.
He said the melodious relationship began because of the personality and iconic tone of Hazarika.
“Lata Ji fell in love with the composition of Bhupen Da.
Bhupen da likes Assamse pronunciation and rendition,” Kataki added.
He said whenever Lata came to Calcutta, he went to rest at Hazarika’s house at 77 B Golf Club Road, Tollygunge.
“As soon as a famous music company came to find out about him living in the residence of Bhupen Da and it asked both to do two songs Bengali.
In two days, on the song and direction of Bhupen Da, Lata Ji recorded two Immortal songs in 1957,” said Kataki.
Many Hazarika songs have made Bengali Rich music.
But his relationship with Lata was valued with Evergreen songs in Bollywood later.
“Nainon Mein Darpan Hai” is an instant hit in the film Bollywood Aarop (1974) where Lata did magic with Kishore Kumar under the direction of Hazarika’s music.
In the 1980s, the two songs were in the first Hindi film Kalpana Lajmi “Ek Pal” under the direction of Hazarika and then in 1992, three songs for Rudaali.
“Dil Hoom Hoom Kare” From Rudaali is another popular Bollywood song in the original Assamese song “Hom Hom Kore” book.
He also sang several assa-film songs, including “Duyo Mukhamukhi” and “KOO KIO TAJMAHAL”.
Lata visited Guwahati in 1984 and 1994 for direct performances.
The musician recorded JP Das said Lata’s death was a big blow to the Assamese music industry.
“I have listened to the songs since the early 1950s.
‘Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum’ remains my favorite,” said the watershed, calling Lata a Torchbearer even for several music directors.
“The Assam people salute him with the song Jonakore Raati Asomire Maati,” he added.
