‘700 buildings are identified as dangerous’

New Delhi: About 700 buildings located in North Delhi were declared a dangerous structure in the pre-monsoon survey by the regional civil bodies, senior officials said on Monday.
Security of old houses and other structures have become sharp focus when two boys, seven and 12 years old, were killed after a four-story building collapsed in the Sabzi area of ​​the North Delhi bath.
The building, which collapsed on Monday, is located in front of Old Robin Cinema, in the ward of Malka Ganj on the northern corporate civil line zone, and the whole environment has a small building around 75 years old, officials said.
A pre-monsoon survey was conducted at all six Municipal North Delhi corporate zones in May-June to identify the structure and take improvement actions.
“As long as this survey, 699 properties or structures are found in dangerous conditions and 444 structures are identified as necessary improvements needed,” said a NDMC senior official.
During the civil line zone survey, 89 properties were found dangerous.
Also, 20 properties were found dangerous at Ward Municipal No.13, where the poor incident occurred on Monday, he said.
Of this amount, 20 dangerous properties in Ward, nine properties are located on the same road, the main road, old shower subzi, where the collapse incident occurred, said the official, this house was not identified that it was not dangerous as it was found in dangerous conditions during the survey, Officials said.
All Zonal NDMC authorities have issued a notification based on Part 348 Corporate Act Municipal Thedelhi, 1957 to owners of all buildings, identified as dangerous, they said.
According to the norm, after the structure is declared dangerous or insecure, if it is repaired, the owner is instructed to fix it.
But if it’s too dilapidated, the authenticity of the citizenship destroys it for public safety.
Commissioner Municipal Delhi North Sanjay Goel, who visited the collapse site, said the building was around 78 years old.
“Two children who died in the incident were past when collapse occurred.
We will investigate the cause of the incident and take appropriate action according to the report,” he said.
The North Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, former Mayor of Jai Prakash, and several other officials also visited the collapse site.
“This area is very old, even Cinema Robin is an old structure, where this building stands.
Even the trace of the old tram line can be seen in the area.
There are hundreds of structures in the area, more than 75 years old,” Goel said.
Prakash said from outside the building it didn’t seem to be weak structure.
The city commissioner said maybe “someone fiddling” with the structure on the ground floor to do some extra brick work, which can compromise the structural safety of the building.
“Rescue and operations of relief and debris are being removed.
We tried to find out what caused the collapse of the building,” he said before.
The civil lines were founded by the British in the early 20th century after the imperial capital shifted from Calcutta to Delhi in 1912.
Recently, an old building in the Narela Delhi area, which was declared a hazardous structure by civilian authority, has been collapse.
However, no one was injured in the incident.
“An old building has fainted in the Begumpura area of ​​the NDMC Narela zone.
The building has been emptied of its inhabitants because it was declared a dangerous structure.
And, no one was injured in an accident,” said a senior NDMC official.
