Thiruvananthapuram: Alleged Coronavirus Infection Cluster from the Omicron variant has been detected in private nursing colleges in Pathamthitta on Wednesday.
A total of 13 girls have tested positive Covid-19 and in whom someone has been positively tested for Omicron.
All students are roommates in the dormitory.
Health Minister Veena George said because all students have tested the positive sample they will be sent to the genome sequencing.
Students who test positive for the Omicron variant have come into contact with a traveler infected by the new strain.
A total of 76 Omicron cases were reported in the state on Wednesday with a total tally to 421.
Thrissur and Pathanamthitta each was a major contributor with 15 and 13 cases, followed by Alappuzha (8), Kannur (8), Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam and Malappuram ( 6), Kollam (4), Kozhikode and Kasaragod (2) and each in Ernakulam and Wayanad.
One person from Tamil Nadu has also tested positive for new variants.
Among new cases, 59 people came from low-risk countries, seven of high-risk countries and nine infected by contact.
Of the total 421 cases, low-risk countries contributed 290 cases, high-risk countries for 85, and other countries for three people.
Forty-three reported positive through contact.
The country recorded 12,742 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours.
A total of 72,808 samples were tested.
With 23 other deaths that occurred in the past few days it was recorded as Covid death and 176 deaths added to the appeal received, the total number of deaths had increased to 50,254.
The country currently has 54,430 active cases where 5% of people are received in hospitals or in other treatment centers.
Thiruvananthapuram reported the highest number of cases (3,498) followed by Ernakulam (2,214), Kozhikode (1,164), Thrissur (989), Kottayam (941), Pathanamthitta (601), Kollam (540), Palakkad (495), Palakkad (495)) , Alappuzha (463), Malappuram (449), Idukki (367), Kasaragod (262) and Wayanad (200).
Meanwhile, Pathanamthitta District Medical Officer Dr.
L Anitha Kumari has urged the public to strictly follow the Covid protocol and accept Covid vaccination after the increased omicron case.
The Shailaja test of PositivecPM leader and former Minister of Health K K Shailaja MLA who had been tested positive for Covid 19 was treated at the Kannur government medical lecture on Wednesday.
The medical council is monitoring his care says that his health condition is satisfactory.
