New Delhi: The survey by the Delhi Commission for women has identified nearly 800 women who have been widows during Covid-19 pandemics.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced a scheme called ‘Mukhyamantri Covid-19 Parivar Arthik Sahayta Yojana’ to help families who lose loved ones during a pandemic.
A statement by the Commission stated that through the Mahila Panchayat network at the grassroots, it had identified 791 women whose husband died of Covid-19.
DCW has also conducted a social survey of these women so that it can help the government rehabilitate them.
According to a survey report, 774 (97.85%) of 791 women have at least one child, while 360 women have 3-5 children.
30 other women among those surveyed have more than five children.
From the list of 791 women, 734 (92.79%) were included in the bracket aged 18-60 years, while the rest were all senior citizens.
191 women fell in the age group 18-35.
While 721 of 791 women identified were housewives, the rest work as domestic workers, workers, small business owners and private employees and governments.
About 28.5% of women do not have sources of income, while nearly 60% of women have a monthly income of less than Rs 15,000, the survey is stated.
It also found that 597 women have not been vaccinated until the date of the survey.
“DCW strongly believes that it is important to make these women vaccinated priority.
Recommend the government to issue orders to district judges to get these women vaccinated,” Commission added.
