80% of the elders in Mother have got the first jab: BMC

Mumbai: Are the cities on the verge of vaccination nearly 100% of senior citizens with at least one dose? Mumbai has a projection of 11.07LAKH people over the age of 60 years, while data shows that 11.08lakh (100.09%) has taken at least one Covid vaccine shot and around 8LAH senior citizens (71%) are fully inoculated.
City immunization numbers are always including people from remote parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan region.
Thus, despite the coverage of 100% on paper, the possibility of around 20% of senior citizens who live in Mumbai are left closed, said Suresh Kakani, an additional commissioner.
Because the door-to-door survey to measure the actual coverage can produce a little, civil administration now plans a drive around the building cluster.
Kakani said the last mile coverage would be the key to making sure every individual got a shot.
“Immediately, we will plan a training where one vaccination center will include 50-60 buildings in an area.
This will allow us to discuss anyone who has not received shots,” he said.
As expected by BMC, Mumbai has an adult population of 90.78lakh, where 83% have at least one dose and 35% have gotten them.
However, the state estimates the population of Mumbai adults to 96lakh, a number comes from the 2011 census and with an annual growth rate calculated.
Recently, the country has produced a new estimate of 92lakh, a official said.
“But we usually go with the estimated BMC population to analyze coverage.” According to that, around 95% of the age group 45-59 had received at least one dose, while 60% had received both shots.
In the age group 18-44, 69% had at least one JAB and 16% had obtained both.
“We have found that 4 out of 10 people who take vaccines in Mumbai do not live here, but they work here.
So, their vaccination is also important to ensure the city is protected,” said Dr.
Sheela Jagtap, responsible immunization.
The doctor said the impact of vaccination looks fewer senior citizens and critical cases at the hospital.
Dr.
Tanu Singhal, an infectious disease expert consulted with Kokilaben Hospital, said because the train began, the increase in the case had been marginalized.
“Our ward or icus is not filled quickly as we feared,” he said.
Mumbai currently has less than 400 severe patients.
Dr.
Vasant Nagvestar, member of the Covid State Task Force, said the next 10 days would be very important to understand the impact of social dagging during ganpati.
