Ahmedabad: The genetic profile of Covid-19 which is common in Gujarat changes, shows the top sources in the State Health Department.
While the Delta variant – which caused the second wave of destructive pandemic in Gujarat and India – for the first time since April took the back seat in December to open the way for the sub-variant, the source showed that Omicron could appear as a dominant variant in the third wave.
“Sequencing genomes revealed that the first week of January took more than 50% of the omicron variant samples from the total, while the number was 80% as high as a patient with a history of foreign trips and direct contact,” said a health department official.
“Previously, the omicron variant case was only found among travelers, but at this time more than 50% of cases did not have a history of travel or direct connection with previous eryikron patients.” The official number but still lower than 40,000 covid patients totaling 40,000 recorded since the date recorded the first omicron variant case on December 4, the total number of omicron patients was 264 or less than 1%.
When contacted, the Senior Health Department official said that now 10% of the total positive cases were sent for sequencing, while all positive patients found from the airport were sent to sort.
“The number of omicron cases increased, but we have not recorded a large surge, although it is true that compared to community samples, Omicron is found more among foreign-returned individuals,” said an official.
