Ghaziabad: An 80-year-old woman died after she allegedly fell from the balcony of her eight-floor flat in Indirapuram’s Shipra Srishti society on Tuesday morning.
Police said the woman was mentally ill and also had a sleepwalking disorder.
The body has been sent for an autopsy and its report is awaited, officers said.
The woman has been identified as Sudarshana Sharma.
She was living with her son Deepak, a local builder, and his family in Shipra Srishti.
Indirapuram circle officer (CO) Anshu Jain said they received information that a senior citizen fell from the balcony of her flat around 7am.
“A police team immediately reached the spot and found the woman lying in a pool of blood.
She died on the spot,” she said.
“After questioning her son, we came to know that she woke up around 7am.
The family was indoors when they heard a sound from the balcony soon after.
When Deepak went there, he didn’t see his mother.
He looked down and saw her lying on the ground.
Deepak immediately went down and informed police,” Jain said.
Senior police officers and a forensic team soon arrived at the spot and sent the body for an autopsy.
“Initial investigation has revealed that Sudarshana’s husband passed away ten years ago, after which she gradually became mentally unwell.
We also came to know that she had a sleepwalking disorder as her medical reports have confirmed both,” CO Jain said.
Police haven’t received a complaint from Sudarshana’s family members so far but are investigating the matter and the autopsy report will shed light on the case, she added.
