Hyderabad: Internal reports prepared by the Government ENT Hospital, the Nodal Center for the treatment of mucormycosis cases (black mushrooms), shows a strong relationship between fungal infections in patients and Covid-19 vaccination.
Analysis of 300 cases of black mushroom patients showed that 86 percent of these patients had not been vaccinated while six percent only received one dose.
However, these eight percent of these patients received both doses but were infected.
300 patients have presented severe necrosis of dead network cells in sinuses or eye orbits – and have undergone surgical debrises to control the spread of the virus.
“We have conducted an analysis to come to the understanding of how various factors such as vaccination, steroid use, oxygen, among others are interrelated with mukormycosis,” Informed the Tht Hospital Inspector, Dr.
T Shankar.
Dr.
Shankar said that vaccination was found to have a big role and observed that black fungus attacked Covid-19 patients who were not vaccinated because most of the patients were not vaccinated.
“This is another indication that people must advance to vaccinate because it is an additional protection for serious post-covid complications,” he said.
The hospital report also revealed that 51 percent of patients experienced diabetes – Denovo diabetes or new diabetes – while undergoing treatment for Covid-19, so that viral infections did produce diabetes on many patients.
A total of 280 of 300 patients fell into the category of diabetics, both new and existing.
It was seen that 43 percent had suffered diabetes mellitus when they signed Covid-19.
“This shows that the musormycosis mostly affects diabetics that have recovered from Covid-19.
Therefore have controlled diabetes recommended for all patients,” said the Hospital ENT supervisor.
Internal reports also proceed to show that patients who have not used steroids, oxygen supply or injections of remedyivir received, have also contracted a very aggressive fungal infection.
Interestingly, what the aggressive mucoricosis looks does not turn into an infection of 12 percent of cases.
This was confirmed by post-surgical histopathology examination and most likely sinus necrosis.
However, the conditions are treated with the same surgical method as mukormycosis.
