Ahmedabad: Even after a broad vaccination drive in the city that began mid-September, 9 Lakh residents who met the requirements still had not taken the second dose of Covid 19 vaccines.
Data on Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) shows that as many as 9.30,754 people in the city remain partially vaccinated.
From this, 2,58,314 beneficiaries have passed more than six weeks for their second dose.
In a broad vaccination drive from September 17, AMC arranges vaccination booths in various public buildings, AMTS, BRTS stops, and shopping centers.
The Civic body also converts five AMT and one BRT bus to the center of cellular vaccination.
The Civic body starts the Doorstep vaccination service for those who are physically challenged or aged 50 years and over.
“Apart from all our efforts, it is very unfortunate that the city still has more than 9 lakh people who have shown carelessness by not taking their second dose.
When we witness a surge in Covid cases in other countries in this country, this is clearly not the time To show such negligence, “said AMC senior official.
The official said that the highest number of vaccinated people, 1,60,60,192, came from the northern zone which included areas such as Sardenagar, Krishnagar, Sijpur, Naroda and Kubernagar.
“The highest number of people who have not taken the second dose are Western zone residents where 1,52,890 have not taken the second dose of vaccine,” the official said.
Areas include Navrangpura, Paldi, Naranpura, Vadaaj and Sabarmati fall under the Western AMC zone.
The official said that on November 11, AMC had given a total of 73.84 doses of lakh vaccine in the city where 46.91 lakh was the first dose while the remaining 26.93 lakh was the second dose of the vaccine.
“To increase the scope of the second dose we have now decided to allow people to enter AMC public facilities and will also ask other private organizations to do the same thing,” the official said.
He added that those who had not taken the second dose and wanted to be directed to the nearest booth to take their second dose.
