Ahmedabad: Nearly 900 bank employees throughout Gujarat have been tested positive for Covid-19 during the third wave according to estimates by the Bank Maha Gujarat (MGBEA) employee association.
This has forced many bank branches to close operations of up to five days.
After closing the branch recurring in the midst of the third wave and inhibits banking operations, MGBEA has urged the State Level Banker Committee (SLBC) -Jarat to reduce banking hours from 10am to 1:00 p.m.
Representation made before MM Bansal, Convener, SLBC-Gujarat on Friday.
Insulated branches that are closed include federal banks, Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, UCO Bank, Union Bank and the central bank include.
Janak Rawal, Secretary General, Mgbea, said, “At least 900 bank employees have been influenced by Covid-19.
At the bank branches where more people tend to test positively, branches are forced to close for two to five days and after protocol and sanitation compliance, The place was reopened.
It also affects banking operations.
“The banker has requested that the bank be limited to the week of FiveDay’s surgery to the Covid-19 case receding.
“We have made representations before SLBC, asking them to limit services to reduce crowding in the bank branch.
Employees must be allowed to go home after working hours.
The aim is to reduce staff exposure to the public,” Rain said.
The representation also states that banks must be advised to work with reduced staff strength that will help employees and banks in implementing a business continuity plan.
“We ask you to tell the bank to close the branch for 48 hours if there are employees who are found infected.
Pregnant women and those who are disabled must be released from attending the bank’s duty after a rapid surge in the case of Coronavirus infection,” it mentions.
