Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala on Tuesday recorded a sharp increase in the new Covid-19 case because the counting of the day reached 9,066, which marked a surge of more than 100% of the average case reported last week.

The state also reported 296 deaths on Tuesday, took the total fatality past 50,000 marks to 50,053.

Health Minister Veena George said the surge was due to the spread of the Delta Covid variant.
Omicron variants have not triggered a community that is scattered so far, he said.
