Noida: Already known as the ‘City of Apparel’, garment manufacturers and exporters will have further scope for expansion in Gautam Budh Nagar.
A 150-acre Apparel City is being developed in the Sector 29 area of YEIDA by the Noida Apparel Export Cluster.
The garment cluster is expected to draw an investment of around Rs 2,500 crore and generate an employment of five lakh people, exporters say.
Land allotment for the upcoming Apparel City is complete and 91 readymade garment manufacturers and exporters have already picked up plots at the site, which will be handed over in a month’s time.
Lalit Thukral, president of Noida Apparel Export Cluster told TOI, “So far 91 prominent garment houses have taken up land at the Apparel City project site and have been issued allotment letters.
They will start building factories as soon as they get possession of their plots, which may take a month.
We hope all construction will be complete within a year and by 2023, the apparel hub should be up and running.” However, no date has been fixed for the inauguration of the Apparel City just yet.
“We have not decided on any formal inauguration just yet, but possession should be complete in the coming months,” CEO of YEIDA, Arun Vir Singh, said.
“The garment cluster is expected to draw an investment of around Rs 2,500 crore.
We are looking at an employment of around three lakh people directly and two lakh more indirectly.
Almost 70% of the jobs are likely to go to women.
The NAEC is likely to drive exports worth Rs 5,000 crore from the third year of its establishment,” Thukral said.
Apart from setting up the RMG production units, NAEC has proposed to set up apparel training centres in over 2,000 villages of Uttar Pradesh, where training will be offered to locals.
“The trained people will be provided employment in the RMG production units at the Apparel Park,” he added.
Noida has around 1500 garment manufacturers and exporters but the industry has been among the worst hit during the pandemic.
“The garment exporters have been going through a very difficult patch.
The sector needs strong government support for a speedy revival so the industry can sustain,” Rajiv Bansal, secretary of the Indian Industries Association, said.
