Coimbatore: Covid-19 fresh cases in enlarged districts passed 900-mark on Wednesday, when 981 people were tested positive for viruses.
Kaseload daily, which is 863 on Tuesday, is likely to pass 1,000 marks in 24 hours.
A health official said cases have increased by 118 a day in the district and the majority of infected people come from city corporate limits.
While 246 patients were dismissed from various treatment centers that day, this did not have a palpable impact on active cases, which had soared to 4,317.
The district also recorded Covid’s deaths on that day, pushing tolls to 2,528.
The official said nearly 10,000 swab samples were being tested every day in the district and the level of the test is almost 9% until now.
As in many districts, Covid cases began to increase in Coimbatore in the past two weeks, forcing the district administration to declare 100 micro detention zones.
Daily Caseload began to increase from January 3, when more than 100 people were tested positive for viruses.
Since then, new cases have skyrocketed in the district.
Health officials said most of the main contacts of infected people turned positive and therefore Kasel would continue to increase in the coming days.
“Viruses scattered among families seem fast, but the infection by and large remains light.
Therefore, most patients are stored in house isolation.”
