Chennai: The two-time Indian Super League (ISL) champions Chennaiyin FC (CFC) has signed Polish striker Lukasz Gikiewicz on a one-year deal in front of the upcoming season.
Advanced center is the fifth foreign signing for Marina Machans.
Lukasz, which is the appearance of the 200-plug club so far has 49 goals and 21 assists to be shown, will be very desired to make a sign in his debut campaign in the Indian Premier Football League.
“We are looking forward to Lukasz to strengthen our attacks and provide a very much needed purpose this season.
This is a very positive signing for us,” said CFC Co-Owner Vita Dani.
Lukasz has also played in other Asian countries such as Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Bahrain.
He finished the top scorer from the Pro League of Jordan 2017-18 while playing for Al-Faisaly Amman.
“I am very happy to join the club.
My goal is to immediately help the team in getting the third ISL title.
Fans are decent and so are the clubs who have won the league twice,” Lukasz said.
Lukasz has appeared in two largest club tournaments in the world, the European League and Champions League, made 12 combined performances.
During his spell in the Polish SLASK Outfit, he played an important role in the club’s second league title in 2011-12 and also helped them raise the Polish Super Cup in the following year.
“Lukasz is a team player with good experience and great personality.
I believe he will help the team in many aspects, especially with the aim,” CFC Head Coach Bozidar Bandovic commented.
After starting his professional career 13 years ago with a Polish club Olimpia Elblag, Lukasz, now thirty-three, also plays at Cyrpus, Bulgaria and Romania.
