LONDON: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the “savage” bomb attack at Kabul Airport has caused the “many” victims, but that the English evacuation operation in Afghanistan will continue a little longer.
The US said several marines among those who were killed when two suicide bombers and armed men attacked the crowd of Afghans outside the airport on Thursday.
Johnson offers condolences to the US and Afghanistan, said Americans “were very sad to have lost their lives,” and there were also “many Afghan victims.” He said England would continue the evacuation operation, though “we now come towards the end.” He said that “what shows this attack is the importance of continuing that works as fast and as efficiently as possible in a few hours that remains for us.” Johnson did not say when England’s efforts would end.
US troops will leave the airport on August 31, and missions other countries must wrap before that.
Some countries have announced the end of their airlift.
