Coimbatore: Four more people have been arrested for their involvement in kidnapping gold smugglers in Palladam in Tirupur district a few days ago.
Accused of being identified as Karthik, 39, Coimbatore, Mohammed Salman, 43, from Tiruvadanai, Sargunam, 48, from Pudukkottai and Raghu, 30, from the Ramanathapuram district.
They are nabbed on Sundays.
While Karthik was a police officer, he was relieved from the service a few years ago, a police officer said.
The officer said a gang of seven members had kidnapped S Maheswaran, 33, from Tiruvadanai, thinking he had stolen the 5kg gold ingot he was smuggling from Sri Lanka a few months ago.
“He had told them that he had left gold ingots after seeing police personnel.
They have invested Lakh Rupees on gold smuggling and they do not trust him.” Maheswaran, who works under BJP officials in Ramanathapuram Regency, has moved to Ammapalaryam in the city Tirupur and take a job as an acting car driver.
Gang traced the existence of Mahwaran and kidnapped him near Palladam on Thursday.
The gang, the officer said, had kidnapped two of his friends S Veeramani 28 and Azhagar, 33, on Wednesday.
“They were detained in the Dindigul District.
