WASHINGTON: With US military withdrawal from Afghanistan on the threshold of completion, the UN Security Council (UNSC) will meet at 3 o’clock in the East (ET) Monday, to discuss the ongoing developments in Afghanistan.
The UN Security Council is likely to be briefed by UN officials about the latest situations in war-hit by war, CNN reported.
Previously, France, members of the British and non-Councils of the German proposed resolution “called for safe passages for those who left Afghanistan,” which will include counterterrorism, human rights, and human elements.
According to CNN, the UN Security Council is expected to choose to approve the resolution calling for a safe field area for people who want to leave Kabul airport after the US goes.
Previously today, the Russian news agency Sputnik reported that the council was not involved in any discussion about the possibility of sending the UN peace maintenance mission to Afghanistan after the Taliban Afghanistan takeover.
“There are currently no discussion at UNSC when sending the UN peace maintenance mission to Afghanistan and especially for Kabul,” said the source, as quoted by Sputnik.
