Chennai: A 25-year-old slashed his ex-partner’s hand, stomach and attacked his cousin who came to save him in their home in Thiru-VI-Ka Nagar before slitting his own wrist, neck in an offer of suicide on Sunday.
Defendants and sisters underwent treatment at the Government General Hospital Rajiv Gandhi and the police said their condition was stable.
Police said the defendant, Saravanan Immanuel, 25, Moulivakkam, and Sandhya, 22, met through social media two years ago and was in a romantic relationship.
The couple separated two months ago.
The woman was engaged last week.
Police said Saravanan was upset about this.
Sandhya grew up in his aunt’s house and uncle.
The police, quoted the complaint submitted by the female family, said that Saravanan reached the woman’s house around 12:30 a.m.
on Sunday and began to attack her with the knife she was carrying.
His cousin Gomathi, 32 years old, tried to intervene but was attacked too.
When both of them cried for help, Saravanan locked himself in the toilet at home, tarnishing his wrist and neck and collapsed.
Neighbors who rushed to send the third to the hospital in the ambulance and warned the police too.
Police Thiru-VI-Ka Nagar registered the case below 307 (an effort to murder) IPC, Tamil Nadu banned female ACT harassment, 1998, and started an investigation.
