PANAJI: Goa will be the first country in this country to supply free water to 60% of its citizens from Wednesday and so on, said the head of the Pramod Sawant minister.
He launched a saving water to get a free water scheme on Tuesday where households would not be charged for consumption of up to 16,000 liters.
“From September 1, 60% of countries will not get water bills.
Free water means zero water costs, zero rental meters and zero bills.
Those who are included in this regard will not get a sewerage bill,” Sawant said, added That only because the water is free people may not waste it.
“We have said saving water to get free water.
I am sure that Goa people will participate in the campaign,” he said, urging the maximum number of people to join in saving.
“If people join a campaign, those who face the lack of water will benefit,” Sawant said.
He said that it had also been decided to collect small businesses according to commercial rates rather than industrial levels.
“We have decided to shift small business water bills, including restaurants, from the industry to the commercial category.
This will benefit them because their water bills will decrease in a big way,” Sawant said.
The state government has also decided to extend the one-time (OTS) completion scheme to be absent water bills with two months.
In the virtual address to the countries, Sawant said, “When I present a budget in the Goa legislature, I promise people that I will reduce their water bills.
I also reaffirmed the guarantee in my independence speech which said that began September 1, Water bills will be reduced.
“He added that those who live in a housing community will also benefit because one meter water consumption will be divided between the total flat in the complex.
