Washington: The United States has thrown at least 15.1 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine since March 1, according to a report by NBC News.
The figure is much higher than previously thought and may still be an undercount, because it is based on self-reported data from pharmacies, states and other providers, NBC said, quoting responses received for public data.
At least seven countries are missing from numbers, and the main federal agent.
The reason for wasting doses varies and includes cracked bottles, errors in melting vaccines, freezer function failures and more doses in bottles than people who want it, with a limited window a few hours to use vial after being stabbed.
The news came as a less developed country struggling to vaccinate their population due to supply constraints, with African continents only 2.8 percent vaccinated, according to public data collected by our world in the data.
The United States, on the other hand, has provided around 440 million doses and vaccinations 52 percent of the population – numbers that can be much higher but for a vaccine defeat attached between the big segments of people.
More than one million Americans have received a third dose on weakened immunity, and the state plans to make the third shot available to everyone eight months after they are the second, starting later this month.
“This is an equity problem,” Doran team, professor of health policy at York University told NBC.
“You have a country that is very rich with good access to the vaccine basically removing vaccines.” The United States has promised around 600 million doses to middle and low income countries, and has contributed 110 million in early August.
