Mumbai: Because of the increase in motorized vehicles in the city, the traffic police will soon establish 16 chowkies again.
At present, the city has 34 traffic chowkies, manned by a power of around 2,800 traffic personnel.
This step tends to reduce the time of the traffic police response in the field, with the spread of larger personnel to maintain the flow of smooth vehicles.
There are more than 37 lakh vehicles in Mumbai at this time.
In many places, the distance between two traffic chowkies will be reduced so newly assigned to share responsibility.
For example, Chowkie is just planned for Dongri.
To this day, Mohammed Ali Road, Dongri, Rea Road, Dockyard Road, Sewri and Cotton Green Fall between Pydhonie and Wadala Traffic Chowkies.
“The new Chowkie will be given substantial jurisdiction from the Pydhonie and Wadala regions.
This will reduce the burden on the two available.
It will also help accelerate the response time,” said an officer.
Senior police have been asked to identify locations where new chowkies can begin.
“First, we are looking for contacting government institutions to get space.
If there is no government soil or building available, we have a plan to take the rental room and start chowkies,” the officer said.
The rental will be decided after the space or building is selected.
“Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrrale has approved the beginning of the new traffic police chowkies,” the officer said.
“We will try to start Tthem soon,” said Rajvardhan Sinha, Commissioner with the police, traffic.
Traffic police are planning Chowkies at Mra Marg (located near CST), Drive Marine, and DB Marg, Chowkie Baru in Vikhroli to cover the Eastern Express highway on the side of Kanjurmarg and adjacent areas, and other Chowkie in Thrombay to divide the workload Areas like Mankhurd and Deonar.
