Zurich: The United Nations will hold an international aid conference in Geneva on September 13 to help prevent what UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres is called “towering humanitarian disaster”.
“We need an international community to stand together and support the Afghans,” said Guterres in a post on Twitter who announced the conference that he said would seek a quick scale in funding for humanitarian assistance.
“We also request full humanitarian access and without obstacles to ensure Afghanistan continues to get the important services they need,” he said.
Many Afghans struggled to feed their families in the midst of severe drought before the Taliban militants seized power last month and millions of times might face hunger with isolated countries and the assistance agency said.
“The United Nations stands in solidarity with Afghans and is committed to remain and gives it for them,” Guterres said.
